You must see Venice at least once in your life. It so beautiful and important in world history that many orher cities in the five continents were named the same. It is a great educational trip for the kids and a memorable experience for the while family.
Venice is built on islands in the middle of Italy’s largest lagoon. There is limited amount of accommodation on the islands so prices are chaper in the mainland near Mestre. However, it preferable you stay on the main islands in one of the 6 districts of Venice: Cannaregio, Castello, Dorsoduro, Rialto, San Polo or Santa Croce. You can easily walk everywhere from there.
There are no cars in Venice! Thus, if you do not want to walk you can only take a boat or a Gondola as an alternative.
This is why it is strongly recommended to choose an accommodation in the center, even better if it is near the train station. In fact, you can use Florence as a great departure point for day trips to Pisa (to see the leaning tower), Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano and other must-see places in Tuscany.
Not comfortable with strollers

The city is overwhelmed with tourists but that is not a reason to not see it. It is made of 118 islands and 435 bridges. It is not a comfortable city for strollers and it is a destination more suitable for families with kids aged 5 and older.
Besides the main attractions of St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace and Rialto Market it is fun to get lost in the myriad of narrow alleyway flanked by canals and lavish historic palace. Children will love hopping from one bridge to the other enjoying spectacular views over the water and the classic local boats “the gondolas”.
