Italy is famous for the incredible variety of natural landscapes that you can find from north to south.

Following the development of the tourism industry, many sought-after destinations began offering services specifically tailored for families with children of different ages, who can then make the most out of their vacation there.

To help you choose the best destination for you and your little ones, we selected 6 destinations that are renowned for the quality of their services

1. Dolomiti Paganella (Trentino-Alto Adige Region): the villages located on the Paganella plateau, like Molveno, Cavedago and others, are connected by the “Family Wonderland”. This project puts together the services of the area in order to help families plan activities such as visits to educational farms, children’s clubs, a water park, trekking adventures and much more.

Every year there’s a week in summer and one in winter dedicated to family discounts and special rates with hotels. Other activities include swimming, mini fishing and ski lessons, canoeing, archery, children’s cookery lessons, toboggan races etc.

2. Courmayeur (Valle d’Aosta Region): this location is perfect for a family vacation. There are plenty of ski schools for children, who can also learn tobogganing and ice-skating, not to mention typical summer activities such as horse riding, hiking and mountain biking. You will also find many family-friendly hotels that are able to accommodate children of all ages.

3. Dobbiaco San Candido – Lienz (Trentino-Alto Adige Region) cycle path: a 3-hour adventure for the entire family! This cycle path is suited for children as the itinerary is essentially flat and is around 40 km long. It proceeds from San Candido (South Tyrol) to Lienz, meaning that you get to cross the border to Austria as you admire the breathtaking landscape. You may also choose to stop at the Loacker waffle factory for a visit or enjoy the Wichtel Adventure Park. After your arrival in Lienz, you and your little ones can comfortably go back by train with your bike.

4. Bormio (Lombardy Region): this historic mountain town is located in the picturesque Valtellina valley and its famous for the vast range of attraction it provides. You and your family can have fun ice skating, sledging or riding the toboggan. There’s obviously also a variety of ski lessons for children from a young age, but if you prefer a nice walk in the nature, why not choose the snowshoes? Children and babies are welcome in the thermal spa as well. During the summer you can plan simple outdoor walks or horse riding lessons for your little ones.

This is a sought-after tourist location both in summer and winter, as it offers numerous activities suitable for families with children. Those include: an adventure park where children can jump from tree to tree and climb with complete safety; picnic areas and playgrounds; bicycle rentals; a ski school and Nevelandia. This is a snow park where children can ride the bobsleigh, the snowmobile or the toboggan, but also go ice-skating and much more.

6. Ortisei / St. Ulrich in Groeden (Trentino Alto Adige Region): this town is nestled into the Val Gardena, in the Dolomites area. This tourist destination is particularly suitable for families who like the outdoor, as it offers a variety of scenic hikes and breathtaking landscapes. The town is also famous for its wooden artisan products, such as toys and figurines, and its Christmas market.
